"Flight 1148" is based on the progression of a flight. We all begin with our hustle to the gate for the "Final Boarding Call" scrambling with luggage and running to find gate changes. We have chosen to use John Mackey's Kingfishers Catch Fire for the bookends of the show because of its intensity and beauty.
Then we finally get on the plane in time to wait for take-off and watch the flight attendants give the "Emergency Procedures." For this movement, we have chosen to use John Adams' Wild Nights from Harmonium.
Finally, the flight attendants "Prepare for Departure" and we are in the sky. When we have reached the cruising altitude of "30,000 ft.", we are floating through the clouds admiring the beautiful landscapes and light grids in the cities below. For this movement, we are using original music composed by Dennis Llinas.
Finally, we "Begin our Final Descent" and land safely in our destination with music from Stravinsky's Firebird: Finale and reintroduced Kingfishers Catch Fire and Wild Nights.
