WEEKLY UPDATE!!!!! PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.....

AKINS GENERAL BOOSTER MEETING TUESDAY, 9-7-10

We will be holding our General Booster Meeting this Tuesday, 9/7/10 at 6:30 p.m. in the Akins Band Hall.  We have lots to talk about, especially our fundraising events, so please plan on attending!

AKINS GOLD CARDS FUNDRAISER

The Akins Gold Card fundraiser will occur from Friday, 9/10/10 until Friday, 9/24/10.  We are strongly encouraging students to do pre-orders.  You can download the pre-order form here.  We have a limited number of cards available and will need to re-order if we get low.  If students have an idea of how many they have sold by next Friday, then we will be able to re-order cards before the end of the fundraiser.

The AWESOME news....this year students will earn $8 per card towards their accounts vs. $5 - 6 in the past two years!!!!!  That's right I said $8 per card!!!  This is a huge opportunity for students to get caught up in the fair share accounts and to also earn money toward their spring trip.  Please take advantage of this fundraiser as this will be the biggest profit for the students all year!

We will send out the discounts available on the card on a flyer by this Friday. It will be available on the Yahoo Group.
 

THE THIRD GAME OF THE SEASON, FRIDAY, 9/10/10

Akins will take on the Bastrop Bears at Erhard Field in Bastrop, Texas at on Friday, 9-10-10 at 7:30 p.m.

WATER THE EAGLES SCHEDULE - 2010 MARCHING SEASON

Now that marching season has begun it is now time to "Water Our Eagles".  As you can imagine our Eagle band and colorguard require alot of water to keep them hydrated and happy!

Each member of the following sections will be required to bring in 2 cases (24 count each) of bottled water to the band hall and place it in the new storage area. Please write your student's name on each case.  The clarinet section should have turned in their waters this past Monday.
 
  • TRUMPETS - Due by Wednesday August 25th
  • CLARINETS - Due by Monday August 30th
  • PERCUSSION - Due by Wednesday September 8th
  • FLUTES - Due by Wednesday September 15th
  • TROMBONES and COLORGUARD - Due by September 21st
  • TUBAS and DRUM MAJORS - Due by October 1st
  • BARITONES and MELLOPHONES - Due by October 10th
  • SAXOPHONES - Due by October 15th

SPIRIT COMMITTEE IS CALLING ALL SIGN-MAKERS!!!

The Spirit Committee is needing your help for the Sign-Making Party on Saturday, 9-11-10 at 10a.m. in the Band Hall.  The signs made will help show our love and support of our Eagle Band and Colorguard. They will be placed in the band hall for motivation and we will use them in the stands at games and competitions. Any and all ideas are welcome as well as supplies! THE AKINS GARAGE SALE IS COMING UP ON 9-18-10

The garage sale is creeping up on us quickly!  It will take place in the parking lot at Akins High School outside of the band hall on Saturday, 9-18-10 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.  This is a student fundraiser so in order for kids to get a part of the profits they will need to fulfill two requirements.  The first requirement is that they donate items to the garage sale (this includes pricing the items before they are donated).  And the second requirement is that the student or a representative for the student is present for the duration of the event!  This means the student (or his representative) is HERE at 7 a.m. and REMAINS here until 1 p.m. There will be no exceptions to these rules. For all students who qualify, the profits will be divided among them.

So clear out those closets and garages and help us out!  If you have any questions, please let me know.

FOLLOW-UP ON FUNDRAISERS

There are still twelve students who have not returned their BBQ tickets.  If these tickets are not returned, they will be charged for each ticket that is still outstanding.
For those students who participated in the Bowl-a-Thon, all pledges should have been returned by yesterday and submitted in the black box in the band hall.  If you have not done so, please do this as soon as possible!!!

BAND UNIFORM GARMENT BAGS

We will soon be taking on the huge task of formal uniforms.  At this time, we need all garment bags for each student brought to the band hall so we can start applying name tags to the bags.  Please make sure you put your student's name on the bag along with their section in the window of the bag.  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!

BAND PAYMENT SCHEDULE

Fair Share payments are already due. The schedule is as follows...
 
July 1 $60 (this payment is past due)
August 1 $60 (this payment is past due)
September 1 $65 (this payment is past due)
October 1 $65  

These payments should be remitted to Akins High School, 10701 South First Street, Austin, Texas 78748 and ATTN: Akins Band / Lisa Torres. Lisa is our student account manager this year and she will deduct your payment from the Charms account and then forward to payment to the Akins bookkeeper for processing. This will ensure that all payments are credited to your band account in a timely and efficient manner.

There are still students who do not have an email address associated with their account.  Therefore, they are not receiving their account statements via email.  For these students, paper statements have been printed and will be distributed by Mr. Golden.  Please understand this is a much less reliable avenue of communication as most students are not good at passing along this information  If you have not received your statement via email but would like to, please contact Lisa Rodriguez at ltrakinseaglemom@yahoo.com.

Statements have been sent this week so if you did not receive yours, we do not have a valid email address for you.  Please contact Lisa at ltrakinseaglemom@yahoo.com.  If there are any questions about the payments, all questions should be directed to Lisa.  Please let me know if you have any questions about this procedure.

Formal uniforms will be distributed on September 17th. Students whose accounts are not current WILL NOT not receive their formal uniform and will perform in their summer uniforms until payments have been received.

Please be aware that NO CASH should ever be put in the black boxes that are submitted as payment.  Once the cash is placed in one of the boxes there is no verification that can be made.  Please turn the cash into a money order or cashier's check before placing in the black boxes in the band hall.  If you are not able to do this, DO NOT put the cash in the box.  Instead, submit it in person Lisa Rodriguez.  Lisa will give you a receipt showing the amount of cash you have submitted.  Thank you so much for your cooperation in this matter.
