COLOR GUARD AND WINTER GUARD
COLOR GUARD
Color Guard is the dance section of the AEB Marching Band, providing stunning visual aspects to the show’s performance. Along with movement and dance, color guard uses props such as flags, rifles or sabres and other themed objects, to enhance the expression of the emotions and dynamic passages in the music played by the marching band. Color guard takes place in the fall semester, with performances at football half-time shows, as well as separate marching competitions.
WINTER GUARD
In the spring semester, Colorguard switches to Winterguard, which focuses on guard-only indoor competitions, and performs an entirely different show than in the fall semester. Combining art with athletics, Winter Guard is a competitive activity that brings together dance, recorded music and the manipulation of rifles, flags or sabres. Shows are themed, and performed indoors on a gym floor, often decorated with an elaborate floor cover. The Akins High School Color guard has two Winter guard units: JV and Varsity. Winter guard competes from January through late March/early April on the Texas Color Guard Circuit (TCGC).
