Akins Band Family,
This is one of the more difficult messages I’ve ever had to write, but life is about change and my experience has taught me that nothing ever happens the way you plan.
Last Wednesday I was offered and accepted the Director of Bands position at Clear Creek High School in League City, TX, just southeast of Houston in the NASA area. This all happened very quickly, but in the end they made me an offer that I could not turn down. My brother and his family live in the area and my nephews will attend Clear Creek High School starting this fall. The opportunity to be near my family and to take on a new adventure were impossible to ignore.
AEB has been my life’s work for the last six years. Working with and for you all has been one of the highlights of my life and I love you all and the Akins Band dearly. This was an extremely difficult decision to make, but I leave with with confidence that the program will continue to do bigger and better things. Students, I remind you all that YOU are the Akins Eagle Band...it is never the adult that stands in front of you that makes the difference. You are the heart and soul of your program and it is up to you to keep things moving in the right direction.
I have faith in you and your abilities and always will. I know that the best is yet to come for the Akins Eagle Band and for all of you. Your dedication, hard work, and perseverance are unmatched by any group of students I have ever encountered. I am excited to see where you go next in the immediate future!
Parents, it has been a privilege and an honor to work with and for your students. They are unlike any young people I know and deserve the absolute best. I am so grateful to have been on the journey with them for the last six years and thank you for sharing you children with me. The lessons they have taught me are invaluable and I will never forget them and their indefatigable pursuit of excellence.
I am confident that Ms. Salazar and the Akins Administration will work tirelessly to make sure that the program is protected and the right people to keep the work going are put in place. I ask you to trust them as they move forward in the coming weeks. I have no doubt that they will make the decisions that will be the best for the Akins Band as the new custodian of the program comes into place.
My AISD email account will be inactive within the next week, but you can reach me at anytime at email@example.com. I hope to have the opportunity in the next few weeks to see many of you before I go!
With gratitude and love,
